About us
Kono Wong a Cornell University Graduate with a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Administration has had the good fortune of operating world class restaurants on Maui and Oahu and had been chronicled in Bon Apetite, Gourmet, and Travel and Leisure. Susan Wong grew up in Hawaii Kai in a restaurant family. For over 50 years, her family resturant still serves loyal customer to this day in Aina Haina. A genuine love of food and people has inspired a new restaurant tradition, Hodgepodge, here in Eugene. Together, Kono and Susan moved here to Eugene 17 years ago to raise their three children and settle into a community which has embraced their vision of a casual but quality driven restaurant where they invite everyone to enjoy their Aloha and wonderful flavors of Hawaii with a West-coast sofistication.
When Hodgepodge first opened its doors in 1994, it was the first and only Hawaiian eatery in Eugene. The name Hodgepodge came from trying to describe the type of food that was being offered. The menu is a mix of cultures and flavors blended together to make the style of food that is unique to Hawaii. What better way to describe a multi-cultural mixed menu than "Hodgepodge". The concept was unusual, and it took some time before Oregonians warmed up to the idea of plate lunch—the island inspired dishes served with steaming white rice and macaroni salad. But warm up they did, and pretty soon, plate lunch eateries began popping up all over Eugene, catering to the changing palates of our town. Seventeen years later, Eugene continues to evolve. A myriad of choices allow diners to be selective, putting higher premiums on quality, variety, and customer service. Here at Hodgepodge, we’re evolving too. Come join us at our West 11th location, where we now offer a full-service, sit down experience. Our wait staff will answer all your questions and make recommendations, helping you to craft your perfect plate lunch, and a bottle of beer or glass of wine to match! Our customers have been talking, and we've been listening—ever evolving as we bring to you the wonderful flavors of Hawaii with a West Coast sophistication. If you haven’t tried Hodgepodge lately, you haven’t tried Hodgepodge at all. Our lobby is open
